ZAC – I fiori del MALE has been selected out of competition at
72nd Venice International Film Festival,
“Il Cinema nel giardino” official section.
ZAC – I fiori del MALE is a film by Massimo Denaro, about Pino ZAC.
Venice Film Festival, the oldest film festival in the world, it’s like home to Pino Zac. In 1961 he won the Lion prize with his animation movie “L’Uomo in Grigio”, together with Miro Grisanti.
Pino Zac disappeared exactly 30years ago, and Venezia72 dedicates a special event to Pino Zac, to his cult magazine Il Male and, above all, to his passion, his life: Satire.
In a new section, a free open space, will be presented (world premiere) the film “ZAC – I fiori del Male”, directed by Massimo Denaro and produced by Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Sede L’Aquila. Before the screening there will be an informal debate about Satire, with some friends and colleagues of Pino who gave their voice into this film.
Moreover, in Venezia72 you’ll have the possibility to enjoy the restored “Vogliamo i colonnelli” (1973), the first satirical film by Mario Monicelli, in which Pino Zac plays as Armando Caffè, a photojournalist.

ITALIANO

Pino Zac was a director and actor, but most of all one of Europe’s greatest masters of satire. He was well known across France in the 1960s as a leading illustrator for Le Canard Enchaîné. In Italy he won awards at Venice for his animated shorts that were also nominated for an Oscar.
in 1978, his work led to the launching of Il Male magazine and the rebirth of satire in post-war Italy. He was a brilliant artist but way too “awkward”, always against whoever was in power, until his premature death in 1985.
Pino has been desaparecido for the last thirty years, abandoned, isolated.
This is a film about free men fighting authoritarian propaganda that panders to the national interest
and decency, a film to remember Artists who remained steadfastly defiant.
